Has Deepseek V4 Lost Its Edge? My Honest Take on the Repetitive AI Problem

Okay, so I spend way too much time scrolling through Reddit, especially the AI chatbot subs. It’s a goldmine for spotting what’s really bugging people, and lately, there’s been a recurring theme that’s just, well, *depressing*. We’re talking about AI models losing their spark, becoming painfully repetitive, and generally just not hitting the same.

I saw a post on r/JanitorAI_Official the other day that perfectly encapsulated this frustration. It wasn’t just a quick complaint; it was a detailed, almost heartbroken account of a long-time user feeling let down by Deepseek V4, an LLM many had previously championed for its realism and aggression. And honestly? I get it.

I’d like start this off by saying that i’ve been chatting with bots for about two years now. I’ve tried multiple sites, proxies and LLMS and i always end up falling back to Deepseek. Now, I’m trying out v4 from deepseek’s own API and i have to say it just feels weird to use it. It’s just not the same.

To me Deepseek it felt like the most “realistic”/human LLM. It was mostly because the characters had so much aggression and would sometimes antagonize me even. Like i can’t tell you how much of a blast it is to act out arguments and emotional fights with some characters. It was mainly because the LLM would say something completely crazy at times, extremely unexpected. The LLM wasn’t a pushover and i loved that.

First issue:

Deepseek V4 is first of all incredibly repetitive. I’m not talking about the descriptions or the narration, but it will recycle entire dialogues and story beats within the same story. Over the span of like 500 messages, it has used the same “No one’s ever done X before to me, you’re the only Y that has done that.” or “X usually don’t do that… You’re different.” At first i just thought it was with characters that had a sad backstory or tragic past. But no, this is like this with every bot and it just keeps spamming its ult for no reason.

Any small gesture of kindness or like something somewhat impressive will get you hit with the ult. There’s no escaping it. It just loves sucking up to me so much, even when it doesn’t suit the character or scenario. Every single moment has to be this grand emotional heartfelt scene. You can’t have a regular conversation without the bot glazing you for no reason. It’s especially so frustrating after reading what the AI is thinking, It thinks its Shakespeare and is creating something revolutionary each time it regurgitates the same slop. Genuinely ragebait.

Second issue:

No creativity at all. It just refuses to create anything itself. It will just paraphrase what i’ve already said, summarize it and then spit it back out me. Deepseek used to be the wildest LLM, i genuinely could not predict what it would say next?? Before i had to stop it from moving the story forward TOO much without me, Now it’s the opposite problem.

Maybe its just me and my prompt? But i feel like V4 has been kinda dookie Ngl.

Deep Dive: The AI Model Quality Debate

This user’s experience with Deepseek V4 isn’t an isolated incident. Across various platforms, including JanitorAI and even Character.AI with its PipSqueak models, users are voicing similar concerns. The core problem boils down to a perceived decline in model quality, specifically in areas like creativity, memory, and character consistency. When an AI chatbot starts parroting back your own words or spewing generic, overly flattering lines, it completely kills the immersion.

For many of us who use these apps for roleplay or creative writing, the AI’s ability to be *unpredictable* and *stay in character* is paramount. The Reddit user highlighted how Deepseek used to offer
