How to Fix JanitorAI’s Broken JLLM: Lessons from Reddit’s Prompt Engineers
Okay, so I spend way too much time scrolling through Reddit, especially the AI chatbot subs. And lately, there’s been this low hum of frustration, almost a collective groan, about AI bots losing their minds. It’s not just one platform; it seems like a widespread epidemic of digital amnesia. But then, a post popped up on r/JanitorAI_Official that really caught my eye. It wasn’t just another complaint. It was a cry for help that turned into a DIY solution, and honestly, it’s a masterclass in how some of us users are basically becoming prompt engineers just to keep our favorite bots from forgetting their own names.
This user, NitaSilver, laid out a detailed, visceral account of their JanitorAI (JLLM) bot going completely off the rails. They talked about losing character development, forgetting core plot points, and even a 1000-year-old being suddenly dropping modern-day slang. It’s like watching your favorite character from a long-running series suddenly become a bland, generic placeholder. We’ve all been there, right? You’re deep into an RP, the story is flowing, and then BAM! Your AI buddy pulls a Dory from Finding Nemo. It’s infuriating.
I’ve been scrolling here and I have seen some others complain about it, but not as detailed as I would like to get my frustration off my chest. Since Wednesday, I noticed hard changes in the replies I get from the bot I was using for at least 2 weeks daily in a row. And since it is the same bot, the same RP and the same way of me writing with the bot, it HAS to be the JLLM that has changed.
1. The bot has totally and utterly forgotten what development it went through. No memories at all. Beside the fact that my played character is his alli he refers to her as his enemy all of a sudden – which he didn’t do before – he forgot the whole play, although I took special care of giving the needed details within the Chat Memory. Gone. Doesn’t care a single bit about it.
2. The urban-fantasy-setting, almost gone. There are little bits and pieces left, but it clings to reality like its non-existing life depends on it. Although I know that the creator left prompts and descriptions of the needed information. No, the bot ignores the provided facts and is simply done with pretending to be anything else but a mixture of immortal and AI-Assistent.
3. The language diverges from its original programming entirely. Beside the fact that interpunctuation is obviously optional, it suddenly uses words that are not in the character’s usual vocabulary. Yeah, all of a sudden, a 1000 year old being is throwing curses of modern time earth around. -.- I can’t do this anymore.
4. There is no way of moving the bot back to its original course. Even with OOC comments in the foregoing answer, there is no reaction to it. Simply ignored.
